Wait! Don’t Throw Your Old Phone Away Just Yet

Wait! Don’t Throw Your Old Phone Away Just Yet

Recycle Wait! Don’t Throw Your Old Phone Away Just YetWe know you only want the latest and greatest when it comes to your phone, and it’s our job to make sure you have it at AmazonWireless. What are you supposed to do with your old phone, though, when you upgrade to a new one?
For starters, if your phone is still in full working order, you should consider Amazon’s Electronics Trade-In Program. We accept over 500 different cell phones and accessories, and in return for your phone, we’ll give you an Amazon.com gift card you’ll be able to put towards other purchases on Amazon.com.
Which devices can get you a hefty chunk of change? Here are a couple examples:

HTCEVO4G 150x150 Wait! Don’t Throw Your Old Phone Away Just YetHTC EVO 4G
Trade-in Value: Up to $66.00

Trade-in Value: Up to $121.00

If you don’t want to trade-in your phone, don’t just throw it in the garbage! According to Earth911.com, cell phones contain all kinds of toxic materials like lead, cadmium, and lithium. These elements (two of which are known carcinogens!) can leach into the environment if they end up in a landfill.
Instead of causing environmental damage, check out these other harmless ways to safely dispose of your old device.
  • Cell Phones for Soldiers: If you want to see your old phone go to a good cause, send it in to Cell Phones for Soldiers. They’ll give your phone to ReCellular, which pays for each donated phone and puts the money towards prepaid calling cards for troops stationed overseas, helping them reconnect with their families and loved ones.
  • Retailer and Carrier Collection Programs: If your phone doesn’t work anymore or has no retail value, you can drop it off or mail it in to many retailers, manufacturers, and carriers. The EPA has a listing of some of these collection sites on their website.
  • Call2Recycle: Many of the collection programs on the EPA site are based on partnerships with Call2Recycle, a program operated by the non-profit RBRC. Their website is another great resource for finding drop-off locations and details about what’s inside batteries and phones, recycling laws, and information on how to set up a collection site.
We also have a bunch of resources on general electronics recycling on Amazon.com. Most old electronics can do some pretty heavy damage to the environment if they’re not disposed of properly, so it’s worth taking a minute to read up.
What are some of the old gadgets you have sitting around in your house that need to be recycled?
