Whether you have a brand new Android device or are happy with a trusted veteran, there is bound to be slowdown every once in a while.
That’s OK. It’s part of owning a smartphone.
Instead of growing frustrated with the lack of memory, slowness, or short battery life, you can speed things up by clearing your Android’s cache and cookies. When you use an app or visit a mobile website, your device stores information it uses later to make loading that app/website faster.
Many apps, including Twitter, email, and the web browser, store lots of cache files and cookies. Cache (pronounced CASH) files are transparently stored on your device and filled with data that makes loading future requests faster. Cookies are small files stored on your device by the website itself, allowing your next visit to be tailored to you (think “Welcome!” messages with your name in it).
Of course, cache files can and cookies can lead to slowness. Here’s how to clear them:
  1. Open the Android browser
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy Configuration
  3. Tap Clear Cache > OK
  4. Tap Clear Cookie Data > OK
While you’re there, you can also clear your browser history by tapping Clear History > OK. This removes all of the web pages you’ve visited for since your last clearing.

To clear individual app data, go to Settings > Application > Manage and select an app. Choosing “Force Stop” makes an app quit, while “Uninstall” (surprise) uninstalls the app or prevents updates if the app is permanently part of the device, like Android Market.
There are a few apps available in the Amazon Appstore that can help you clear files. Check out History Eraser (free and pro), Quick Cache Cleaner and History Clean Pro.
Once you clear your cache, cookies, and browser history, your device should operate more smoothly if you were experiencing any slowdown. Now, back to surfing the web.
